Purely Top TV’s Birthday

February 19th, 2010

This time, one year ago, Purely Top TV was founded on the ideal that access to streaming TV shouldn’t involve wading through masses of Popups and extremely fast blinking ads, and that you should have open access to a stream, without having to fill out pages of “Surveys” or “Offers”. And here we are today, still going strong.

To celebrate our birthday, we have undergone alot of recoding of the site to make it faster,  cleaner, and more accessible then ever. This is really only the start of our transformation, and we are definitely looking towards a more community feel. With outsiders coming in and adding embed links, or even links to their own site. We are a bit off that just now, but we are striving to reach that goal.

Here is a quick list of what changes are being released today :

Cub3r Flash News
The front page now contains a small Flash box/cube that has our latest news on it. We found that people aren’t interested in big long pieces of text, and they quickly want to read the headlines and move on. Well, you can quickly flick through the latest news, and then move on to watch your shows.

Latest Additions
The front page also contains (on the left hand side) a box that has our latest additions. So you can immediately come just to the homepage, and see if your shows have been put up yet.

TV Schedule
While still in its infancy, this is quite a handy feature. To the right of our “Latest Additions” is a quick TV Schedule which will tell you which shows are on which day. In the future we are hoping to move this to its own page, and let you guys know when shows “Skip a week” as they often do etc.

Top Shows
Shown along the bottom of the homepage, this lists the top 5 shows with the most views this week. We are hoping to eventually show stats over time, which how shows are rising or lowering in popularity. But for now its handy to find a hot new show to watch.

New View URL’s
Although most of you hardly will notice. We used to have () or “brackets” in our URL’s to shows. In the brackets were our season and episode numbers. But brackets often seem to break querys, or break URL’s when places on things like twitter or facebook. So we have changed them to / instead. For the most part you don’t need to worry, because all old URL’s will still be redirected to the new ones.

Extra Links
Below every episode will be a list of “Extra Links”. These links will be to other websites that also contain embeds of the episode. For the most part, its to try and please everyone. While Megavideo does have pretty good quality, it does have a time limit which peeve alot of people off. So we will try and link to many different sources to give you guys the choice. Do note that there aren’t many extra links up at the moment just due to us spending all our time developing the site. But over time the list will grow bigger and bigger for each show.

There is a bunch more things in the works that we are building, and even a few extra things that are already on the site that you will eventually figure out for yourself. There will be a few issues with the new site as it goes up and over the first week or so. I mean, we can only do so much testing! But we are looking to keep building PTTV bigger and better.

Hello New Shows, Goodbye Old Shows

December 28th, 2009

First off I shall start by wishing you all a very Merry Christmas and hope you had a good one and it wasn’t to cold for you, or in our case to hot (being that we are in the southern hemisphere) =P

Well, it’s almost 2010 which means Purely Top TV shall be loosing a few shows from it’s list, however we shall also gain a few new ones.  So far we decided to get rid of ‘Battlestar Galactica’ as it wasn’t getting any hits and being that it has ended there was no need for it to stay.  This is also the case for ‘Samantha Who’, this show has been cancelled so we have said goodbye to it on PTTV as well.

You may notice two new shows up though now, these being Castle, which is about a Richard Castle a well known novelist who is getting bored of his success till he finds out that there is a real life copycat murderer who has started to stage out the murders that Richard talks about in his novels.  So if you like your murder mysteries then this is a sure hit for you.

We also have added the hit new comedy Modern Family.  This show is in the style of a mockumentary in which we get to see the lives of three families, one gay couple, one traditional family and one multi-ethnic family.  We get to see the loving, complicated and messy way of living of these unique people.  It really is a must see if you like your comedies, as you will be laughing all the way.

If you have any other requests for new shows just let us know and we’ll look into them and see if they are worth putting up. You can email us at admin[at]purelytoptv.com or flick us a line on our Facebook Page or why not send us a tweet.

You may have also noticed another new feature on PTTV series pages, this being the TweetMeme button.  This allows you to tweet about a series or episode that you have seen on PTTV and want everyone else to know about, it will send a tweet out of your account automatically with the link in as well.  So give it ago and let everyone know about the shows up in Purely Top TV.

Flight of the Conchords has hit the end…

December 11th, 2009

new_script2So, it has been confirmed today by Bret McKenzie and Jemaine Clement that a third season of the hit HBO series Flight of the Conchords is not going to happen.

This is a shame as the due brought so much laughter, tears and interesting song choices to our TV sets.

The duo said in one of their statements that they were proud of the two seasons they put out and that they liked the way the show ended.  They also thanked everyone who made the series and watched it and that the characters Bret and Jemaine will no longer exist, however the real Bret and Jemaine will continue.

It’s sad to see this series leave the TV but i guess with a show like Flight of the Conchords it must have been quite hard to think of so many songs to pull out all the time, especially for a cast of two 3 really, Bret, Jemaine and Rhys Darby who as we know played the bands useless manager.

As Purely Top TV is based in New Zealand it’s especially sad for us, as we liked that a hit show such as Flight of the Conchords made it to the HBO line up.

Purely Top TV will try it’s hardest to get Flight of the Conchords back up and running on the website with working links.

Tell us what you think of this as well, are you sad to see it go? or actually quite pleased? and what was your favorite song or phrase from the series?

Commenting And Improved Searching Functionality

October 31st, 2009

Easily our most requested feature on PTTV is the ability to Comment and Rate videos. While rating videos is still in the works, you are now able to comment on any video. The commenting is done through Disqus so if you have an account there already, then your all set to go. If you don’t have an account, that’s no problem! Anyone can comment even as a guest, but all guest posts will be moderated before they go live (People with Disqus accounts have their comments instantly added). But no biggie right?!

Funnily enough. Even though people keep emailing us about adding it. Since we have added the comment form we havnt had one comment (kinda embarressing). So if you guys could get commenting that would be awesome and we can stop looking like idiots :P

Aswell as this we have improved our search. Before when you searched using the box to the top right of any page. You were just taken to a page where it could only list shows. Pretty pointless since you can see them on the right hand side. So we have switched this to a custom google search (Since google pretty much has all our pages anyway). It now lists essentially any page on this site that fits your search term. Its still not 100%, but its a big improvement.

Want some more functionality? Send us an email at admin [at] purelytoptv.com. We cant add it if we dont know what it is right!?

Couple Of New Shows Added

October 23rd, 2009

We are back from holiday and to make up for the lack of updates. We have added two more shows to the ever growing list. You will not be able to watch Family Guy and Avatar : The Last Airbender at PTTV :) . Both are a bit of a departure from the normal shows we generally try and get.

We basically needed a few shows to fill in the void where there were seasonal changes. Both shows you can watch from scratch without having to follow the show right from the beginning (Think Lost, Prison Break). So it makes PTTV an ideal place to kill some time.

Got something else you want? admin [at] purelytoptv.com

Holiday Time

October 14th, 2009

Purely Top TV admins are going on holiday for a week and are going to be without technology.  This will mean one week of probably no episode aditions and we apologies for this but to be honest we think we have earnt this holiday.

We will try our hardest to get some sort of internet access to add the latest episodes but we can’t promise you that this will be possible.

Please stay with us though =) It’s only one week.

Be back soon guys.

Megavideo Time Out

September 28th, 2009

Along with the Sina email we have been getting we’ve also had a lot of people ask us why they can’t watch episodes that are Megavideo, as they just don’t load.

Well there is only one simple answer to this, this being that Megavideo not long ago, put a time limit on there videos to make people sign up to their site.  Sounds a bit harsh we know but this is how it is with Megavideo these days.

There have been a theory that if you start loading then pause the video and let it load till the end and then actually go offline you can watch the whole video without the time running out.  However, we ourselves have tried this a couple of times and not always does it work unfortunately.  But, it’s worth a try if you are desperate to watch that particular episode.

We do try to change Megavideos to Sina as soon as we can as Sina has no time limit but this is not always available till a while after the episodes have been aired.

So, the only way to really beat this. Is to unfortunately get yourself a Megavideo account so you can watch endless amounts of TV episodes from Purely Top TV.

How To Make a Sina Video Full Screen

September 27th, 2009

So, lately we have been getting a few emails from people asking us how to make Sina videos full screen. So we did a bit of research and in a few simple steps you can have your video full screen.

To make it easy to understand we have put together a few screen shots to explain how to do this:

First Step:
You have your Sina video:
Sina Still

Second Step:
Once the Sina video is ready to be loaded, click the button that is circled in the picture below.
Sina2

Third Step:
Once that button has been clicked a screen will come over the video with three options. You want to copy the code in the third option as circled in the picture.
Sina3

Fourth Step:
Once the code has copied you simple need to paste it into your address bar
Sina4
in a new tab/window of whatever web browser you are using and the Sina video shall load in that window full screen.

This is the only way we have managed to find that shall make you be able to full screen a Sina video, so give it a go and we hope this works.

Fall is here

September 17th, 2009

So it was a slow summer with TV programs and a slow season for Purely Top Tv. As you know there wasn’t really much that has been on apart from the very popular True Blood season 2, but as avid fans will know, that is now over and you will have to wait till June 2010 (so it has been rumoured) for the much anticipated third season.

But with fall here and winter not too far away, the TV is rocking with all your favourite TV series back for their next seasons. So what has returned? Well here’s a list for you of what you’ll be able to find right here on Purely Top Tv to get you through the cold winter.

What’s back:
30 Rock
90210
The Big Bang Theory
Fringe
Glee
Gossip Girl
Heroes
House
How I Met Your Mother
Lie to Me
The Mentalist
One Tree Hill
Parks and Recreation
The Office
Vampire Diaries

So keep an eye out for all those shows returning for another fun filled season, or why not remind yourself of what happened in the last season before the new one starts.

If you have an ideas of what you’d like to see added to Purely Top Tv for the fall/winter months don’t hesitate to let us know!!

Welcome To The New Purely Top Tv Blog

September 15th, 2009

With a host full of brand new TV shows coming and old favourites returning, we decided it was time to take the step up for Purely Top TV. Probably the last time we did something this big was the whole new website we got developed a few months back. But this will be probably just as big!

If there is one thing missing at Purely Top TV, its been the “Community” factor. Being that the design we are using right now is completely custom, it takes a while to integrate new features. Obviously one of the most requested features is the ability to comment on videos/shows, maybe add your own links, and even rate the show. But as i say, with a custom script running we would have to develop that completely from scratch.

So, the next best thing is a blog. It will allow us to give you more indepth behind the scenes, give you a chance to vote for your new favourite shows, and more then likely soon to be guest columns that will allow for a more community feeling.

At the moment it will seem a bit bare. But hopefully it will fill up soon :)
